The dreaded, slow-moving home affairs queues will soon be a thing of the past.

The department is embracing technology-based services in a bid to eliminate paper trails and queues, and cut down turnaround time.

It has introduced an SMS service, which will notify applicants of the status of their documents.

Information and communications technologies company GijimaAst is working with the government to speed up e-government solutions to meet the 2009 deadline.
