Safa Soweto is planning to honour three soccer administrators who were instrumental in helping South Africa win the 2010 World Cup bid.

The 'three musketeers' are Local Organising Committee board member Molefi Oliphant, chairman Irvin Khoza and chief executive officer Danny Jordaan.

Also expected to be honoured is Kaizer "Chincha Guluva" Motaung, who is also a board member of the Local Organising Committee.

Phil "Chippa" Mogodi, Safa Soweto regional president, said the awards ceremony will take place at Maponya Mall, Pimville, on December 18.

It will start at 7pm.

"The efforts by the 'three musketeers' in bringing the World Cup is highly appreciated by all of us in Soweto and other parts of the continent," said Mogodi.

"We all know that there were many other people, such as Madiba and (Archbishop Emeritus) Desmond Tutu who were involved in the whole campaign, we also want to thank them.

"We are also planning to honour a host of many other people who contributed to the growth of soccer. It will be a great night to remember.

"This is something that we are planning to organise yearly because there are many new soccer developments in Soweto, almost every day.

"We are still waiting for some of the people that we are planning to honour to confirm their attendance, we are channelling all our efforts into the project."

Mogodi said they will also be honouring former Moroka Swallows chairman Jack "Big Daddy" Sello with a posthumous award on the same night

"Big Daddy was one of the people who fought tirelessly for the development of soccer in Soweto, hence we decided to honour him too for his efforts," Mogodi said.

"We also have a posthumous award for former SABC sport journalist Maseru Koaho."
