Hive of activity in store at tournament

KwaThema in Gauteng and Umlazi in KwaZulu-Natal will be a hive of activitiy when the Cell C December tournament gets under way.

The tournament, which will be staged for the first time at these venues - KwaThema Sports Complex in Springs and King Zwelithini Outer Fields in Umlazi - starts from December 16 to 30.

Both will include soccer and a number of indigenous games. Apart from the games, there will also be prizes for children.

Tournament director Thomas Masehela said they would like to empower tcommunities by involving it in these activities.

"To complement football we have arranged food stalls for informal traders, children's play areas, parachutes, dance and music acts and , traditional games. There will be a number of celebrities invited at these games," he said.

Masehela said a total of 270 football games will be staged before the final on December 30.

He added that R200 000 in cash prizes, 20 soccer kits, trophies and medals and handouts have also been arranged.

Moroka Swallows are part of these activities with one of the highlights being the East Rand Legends game against the Birds Masters. In Umlazi a KZN Masters team will play against the sponsors.

All teams from the quarterfinals will receive T-shirts as well as water bottles.

The teams are 32 senior sides, 16 teams of Masters, 16 Under-15 teams and eight ladies teams.
