The congregation of St Monnica Anglican Church in Halfway Gardens, Midrand, welcomed their new priest Father Xolani Dlwati, 34, yesterday.

The church had been without a priest for the past two years after the death of Father Peter Monageng.

Dlwati was transferred from the StThomas parish in Kagiso 1 on the West Rand.

Visiting priests helped with conducting mass in the past two years.

Bishop Brian Germond conducted yesterday's service.

Dlwati said his main aim is to bring back the youth to the church.

"The youth are no longer coming to church because they find it discriminating against them.

"We need to introduce activities that will appeal to the youth.

"We have to change the focus and make the church vibrant. I am also a youth and think I know what appeals to them," Dlwati said.
