My hands are clean, says Khan

While one of the major players in the Jose Torrealba "signature saga", Afzal Khan, ponders his next move after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, the Venezuelan's future is still uncertain.

Khan said yesterday that despite being relieved of his duties, he carried no guilt.

"I want to say that I am not guilty of any wrongdoing, as two handwriting experts have found. There was no evidence to suggest that I forged anything, and my conscience is clear," Khan said.

He said he had been approached by some Premiership clubs, but he will be taking a break for now .

" There have been overtures from other clubs in the country, which I will consider later. I cannot be reliant on football, however, and will explore other business ventures outside of football," said Khan, who added that he had received huge support from soccer circles.

The day-to-day running of Sundowns will fall to administration manager Belinda Ndlovu.

And with Khan gone and the team going through a slump, his close counterpart, coach Gordon Igesund, might not survive for long, especially with former coach Miguel Gamondi spotted at the derby on Saturday. Igesund worked with Khan when Manning Rangers won the title, as was the case at Santos.

Though he was given a clearance, Torrealba's lawyer Michael Murphy said that clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, were reluctant to make an offer for the striker until the issue, including the arbitration process, was resolved .

"At the end of the day, it is about him playing. He has already lost too much already," Murphy said.

Asked if the player would play for Sundowns again, Murphy said: "Possibly. If it were up to me, we would not want to throw the baby out with the water. We just want his dignity restored."
