It is immaterial who becomes the next ANC president because whoever is elected will continue to implement its free-market policies. The now defunct National Party's (NP) successive leaders endorsed apartheid policies regardless of who was president. And now the ANC, having consumed the NP, has adopted the same pattern of unprincipled continuity.
Azapo believes that the abolition of the provinces is a logical step, given that all liberation movements fought for, or claimed to fight for, a unitary democratic state. Hence our slogan: One Azania, one nation.
Besides, it would save millions of rands in salaries for nine premiers, nine directors-general, their deputies and almost countless MECs and MPLs. The money could be used to develop road construction and water and service delivery in rural areas. Of paramount importance is citizens would no longer fight to belong to a particular province. We hope that in the spirit of the ANC congress, it will abandon the unprincipled manner in which it rejected the cause for greater African unity.
