Family and friends are mourning the death of an avid jazz and boxing fanatic.
Fish Winston Mampe worshipped jazz, said his friend of 53 years Victor Dabuzana.
"Fish was able to imitate jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Joe Turner, Nat King Cole and Joe Williams."
Mampe and a few of his friends formed the Kempton Park jazz ensemble Boom Brothers and he was their lead singer.
"He thoroughly enjoyed music and at school he was a soloist. He was also a collector of international and local jazz," Dabuzana said.
Mampe was born at Madubula- ville in Randfontein on the West Rand 65 years ago.
The young Mampe started his primary education at Sir Thomas Cullinan Memorial School in Olifantsfontein in 1949.
He completed his junior certificate at Lemana Training Institute in Louis Trichardt in Limpopo.
He worked as an airfreight specialist at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and retired in 2005.
Mampe is survived by his wife Ellie and children.
He will be buried tomorrow in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.
The service at 169 Pheasant Street, Leboeng Section, Tembisa, will start at 10am. The cortege will leave for Tembisa Cemetery at noon.
