According to the zoo's website, there will be a McDonald's World Children's Day Picnic on Monday, December 17 at noon. Gates open at 11am. The picnic will be held at Bandstand and tickets are R25 at Computicket or buy at the gate on the day.

Family groups will enjoy local performers Judith Sephuma and Jamali, as well as a variety of kids' activities to raise funds for Cotlands.

There are also guided tours for groups of pensioners at R30 each, which include a hot cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. The visitors will go around in a tractor and trailer.

Johannesburg Zoo also has a brand-new tour. Animal Mythbuster Tour will dispel myths about hippos that sweat blood, bewitched owls, porcupines that shoot quills and many other myths.

The tour lasts 90 minutes and costs R45 per person.
