Educating the poor will free us

South Africa needs free and diversified education. We need technocrats, artisans, agriculturists and engineers. We need all types of skills and professions to rebuild our country and continent.

Free education for the poor is the best national investment. Many children of poor parents have great brains and some of the best leaders in Africa and the world came from poor homes.

Selecting a few schools in poor communities and providing them with education up to primary level is not free education.

A nation that neglects its people's education can never advance or eradicate poverty, disease and ignorance, or create jobs and raise living standards.

About 80percent of the world's raw materials come from Africa, but where is our technology to process raw materials and export them?

Education is a source of wisdom and knowledge. A nation that depends on foreign skills forever is no nation. We cannot talk of development without emphasising the importance of human development.

A country cannot develop if it neglects its human resources. Controlling our economy ourselves depends on the level and quality of education given to our children, especially poor children.
