The Golden Compass, set for release this weekend, might open "the door of the dark side" for young Christians, ACDP Western Cape leader Hansie Louw said in a statement.
Referring to it as "the death of God movie", he noted the film was based on the trilogy, His Dark Materials, written by British author Philip Pullman.
"The movie is part of chronicles of atheism [sic]," Louw said.
He called on "all Christians in the Western Cape and elsewhere to boycott this movie".
The fantasy film, starring actress Nicole Kidman, is based on the first book in the Pullman trilogy, Northern Lights.
According to Wikipedia, the book won the Carnegie Medal for children's fiction in the United Kingdom when it was first published in 1995, and was this year selected by the judges as one of the 10 most important children's novels of the past 70 years.
Two years ago, the book won its author the Swedish Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children's and youth literature. The full trilogy came third in 2003 in the British Broadcasting Corporation's "Big Read", a national poll of viewers' favourite books.
