Fifty teams from around the country will take part in the sixth Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge that kicks off at the Pimville Stadium in Soweto on Saturday.

The tournament carries a first prize of R45000 and will feature four games on Saturday and from then onwards six games will be played daily at this venue until the final day on December 29.

Former South African soccer legends Jacob "Terror" Sephooa, Johannes "Yster" Khomane and Johannes "Ryder" Mofokeng will grace the opening ceremony.

This competition has produced some of the country's young talents like Kaizer Chiefs' exciting midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala, Ajax Cape Town's Clifford "Robot" Ngobeni and Orlando Pirates' playmaker Teko Modise.

Tournament director Phil Mogodi believes that the event will grow from strength to strength as far as support is concerned.

"We signed a contract until beyond the 2010 Fifa World Cup and it ends in 2012," he said.

"The prize mony will also increase every year so teams stand to get substantial amounts in prizes.
