Stars stand by coaches

Platinum Stars have no intention of getting rid of their coaching staff, regardless of their recent string of dismal results.

Stars last won a match while they were under the tutelage of current Orlando Pirates coach Owen Da Gama when they beat Thanda Royal Zulu 2-1 about two months ago.

Since then, the best they have managed under co-coaches Allan Freese and Thierry Mulonzo have been draws - against Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport United, Wits and against Ajax Cape Town on Sunday. In between, there has also been a 3-1 loss to Free State Stars.

Though they look nothing like the team that finished second last season, Mokgopi has warned against panic, emphasising that the team can shake off this bad spell to perform in the second part of the league season.

"We have just had bad luck lately. The team has full confidence in the two of them [coaches], and have no plans of replacing them," Mokgopi said.

Rumours that Ted Dumitru and Neil Tovey are headed to Stars have been doing the rounds, but Mokgopi has refuted them, saying just one win will create the necessary momentum to lift the team from 14th place.
