Phone scam victim refunded

Bongiwe Mofokeng, 32, of Wadeville, in Gauteng, will be refunded her R14900 after a public phone business company failed to deliver on their promise.

Bongiwe Mofokeng, 32, of Wadeville, in Gauteng, will be refunded her R14900 after a public phone business company failed to deliver on their promise.

Mofokeng, an unemployed mother of three, said she wanted to start a public phone business as there were no phones in her neighbourhood.

She approached Glen Ramapulani of Panting & Roof Seal Project Contractors who promised to secure her a public phone contract.

The phones were not delivered within the promised two weeks and a refund was not made within 45 days after Ramapulani was in breach of contract.

Ramapulani agreed to refund Mofokeng in two instalments after sending her on a merry-go-round for the past three months.

She was later advised to collect her wares, and she hired a van to Pretoria.

"I was shocked to find their workshop closed," she said.

She subsequently asked for the phones while awaiting the container, but Ramapulani could not deliver that either.

But her nightmare is finally over.

Ramapulani deposited half her refund on Monday and undertook to pay the last instalment on Friday.
