The annual Soweto Arts Festival kicked off on a high note on Saturday with the Jamming In the Park Concert at the Dorothy Nyembe Park in Dobsonville .

Now in its fifth year, the festival once again showcased the best local talent.

While many descended on Ellis Park Stadium for the international 46664 concern, Sowetans enjoyed their own.

The concert's line-up included Bongo Maffin, Amarobha, Chomee, Arthur, Speedy and Mapaputsi.

The show started on time with developing groups warming up the stage for the big guns. Bongo Maffin was first veteran group to take to the stage with an exciting performance.

They were followed by the talented Chomee, who sent the crowd into a frenzy with her dance moves.

She left her home crowd begging for more.

She was joined by kwaito king Arthur Mafokate and Speedy, who performed a song each.

The festival also includes music, film and theatre.

It has brought to Soweto some of most exciting musicians and bands in recent years, always providing a safe and colourful environment.

It runs until December 16.
