Multi-sport enthusiasts, fitness junkies and lovers of the outdoors will have a great opportunity to test their endurance levels, while shedding the festive season kilos early in the New Year by taking on the action-packed Totalsports Challenge, presented by New Balance and Powerade.

This seven-stage event will start in Gordon's Bay and finish in the picturesque coastal town of Kleinmond on Saturday, January 12.

Entrants will have to show their mettle during seven taxing disciplines, including a 12km surf-ski, 1,5km swim, 50km road bike, 13km road run, 13km K1 canoe, 25km mountain bike and finally a 9km beach run.

Participants can compete individually or in teams of two, three or seven. The introduction of the challenge was well received in October at Sun City and will make its debut in Kleinmond next month.

The Terra Firma Challenge is ideal for athletes who want to stay clear of the water and will consist of only four of the seven stages of the Totalsports Challenge, excluding the swim, surf-ski and K1 canoeing legs.

According to race director Dezroy Poole, the event is truly unique in format and spirit. The starting time is 6am, while the Terra Firma Challenge will start at 7.30am. Both events will start in Gordon's Bay.

Early entry fees (before December 31) for the Challenge are R900 for a seven-member team, R600 for three-member team, R500 for two-member team and R300 for individual entrants.

Entry fees for the Terra Firma Challenge are R1000 for a four-member team, R500 for two-member team and R300 for individuals. More than R125000 in prize money is up for grabs.
