South Africa's Under-20 national team striker Thulani Ngcepe scored the only goal that earned Amajimbos maximum points when they beat Lesotho 1-0 in their opening Group-A match of the Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Championship match at Thulamahashe Stadium in Bushbuckridge on Saturday.

Ngcepe, who later limped off the field after a knee knock, scored the solitary goal in the 7th minute of the first half. He was replaced by Dominic "Manenzhe" Mateba.

"I'm happy for scoring the goal, and I believe had I stayed long on the pitch, I would have scored more goals," said the Moroka Swallows striker.

Amajimbos coach Serame Letsoaka will breath a sigh of relief that his prolific striker's injury was not that serious. "The doctor checked me and confirmed that it was not a bad injury and I will be available for selection today," said Ngcepe.

Botswana, who beat Mauritius 2-0, top Group A on goal difference.

Letsoaka said he was happy that his boys won the opening match. "It's always difficult to play and win the first match of a major tournament. Though the boys started well and faded as the game continued, I'm happy with the results," he said.

His Lesotho counterpart Lehlohonolo Mbunjani still believes that his side will bounce back and advance to the knockout stages.

Amajimbos will today take on Mauritius at KaBokweni Stadium at 3pm, while Botswana will play against Lesotho at the same venue. Kick-off is at 5pm.
