Derby spices up softball fixtures
The teams that will compete in the Limpopo Softball Association LimDev Super League fixture in Kalkspruit on Sunday might not be big clubs in the league, but the derby between Seshego Cannons and struggling Seshego raiders at 1pm adds plenty of spice to proceedings.
Joseph "Chief" Motladi, Cannons' motormouth publicist, yesterday warned Raiders to brace themselves for "war" on Sunday, when only three matches will be played.
"They are our homeboys and we are aware that they are staring relegation in the face but we will not show them any mercy," said Motladi yesterday.
"We have a score to settle with them after they beat us last season. We want to embarrass them with a heavy score to prove to them that we are their big brothers."
Lemo Raphasha, Raiders' player-coach, could not be reached for comment yesterday. He has been busy this week with the preparations for his father's funeral tomorrow.
Motladi might be talking tough, but his team, nicknamed the Destroyers, have not been doing well for the past two seasons.
Many softball lovers are now calling the side "The Destroyed", but Motladi insisted yesterday that they will reverse the slide, come Sunday.
Cannons begin their programme on Sunday with a clash that could go either way against Red Scorpions at 10am. Scorpions will also engage Raiders at 3.30pm.
LSA official Polelo "Mr Magic" Masola, said they decided to stage only three matches in Kalkspruit because there was only one diamonds at the GaMashashane venue.
