The Independent Democrats and the Democratic Alliance could send two ANC officials to jail.
The parties say they are infuriated because the ANC did nothing to stop one of its members from holding two full-time jobs.
A harmonious relationship that has existed for years between the North West ANC and opposition parties is strained after the parties laid a corruption charge against senior members of the Rustenburg local municipality last week.
The ID and DA have laid charges against Rustenburg municipal manager Andries Boshoff and Jabulile Nxumalo, integraded development programme (IDP) chairman and also coordinator of the North West branch of the youth organisation Umsobomvu.
The ID and DA say it is against the law for a government employee to hold two jobs.
They also accuse Boshoff of not acting against people who fail to declare such status - even after numerous complaints.
Agnes Tsamai, ID national deputy speaker, said: "We have raised the issue with Boshoff and Butler Matlapeng, the municipality speaker and they promised us they would review Nxumalo's contract when it expired on November 30 last year.
"But to our amazement, the council renewed her contract without consulting other structures.
"When we raised the issue with Matlapeng, he told us not to damage the good relationship we have with the ANC," she said.
She said the docket was now in the hands of the commercial fraud unit at Klerksdorp.
Asked to explain the situation, Matlapeng said: "I will call you later after I have discussed the matter with my superiors."
