This will definitely manifest itself with the loss of votes in 2009. Maybe the exiles and former political prisoners have had their day in government and it is time that people who bore the brunt of apartheid inside the country mobilise themselves to clean up the ANC, its youth and women's leagues, Cosatu, or form an opposition party that is founded on moral integrity instead of populism.
The National Party made the same mistake of protecting shady leaders, and where is it now? I have a hunch that the ANC is heading for a similar demise. There are simply too many power-hungry, greedy people in the alliance. That is why they are trying to get rid of the few remaining incorruptible leaders like Thabo Mbeki.
Let us hope that in the short period before Limpopo, those who will be voting will do what is right, instead of voting to spite one another, or that people like Cyril Ramaphosa, who enjoys broad public support, are nominated from the floor and accepts, even if they don't wish to stand against Mbeki.
