HARARE - Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade arrived in Zimbabwe yesterday for talks with President Robert Mugabe to try to defuse tension between Harare and London ahead of next month's EU-Africa summit in Portugal.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he would not attend the summit after Mugabe said that he would be present at the talks.

But Wade, who has expressed concern that the impasse between Zimbabwe and its former colonial ruler could derail the Lisbon summit, is trying to sort out matters. - Sapa-AFP
