New festival to rock Northern Cape

Northern Cape Afro-jazz lovers are in for a good experience on December 9 as top-notch musicians will entertain them.

Hugh Masekela and other highly rated musicians will perform at the first ever Phokwane Music festival at Pampierstad Stadium, about 140km from Kimberley.

Masekela will perform alongside world-acclaimed saxophonist Khaya Mahlangu, Afro-pop sensation Corlea Botha, emerging Afro-pop star Nathi Gcabashe, kwaito and hip-hop group In for a Mez, maskandi icon Bongani Nkwanyana, Setswana music superstar Ezbie Moilwa as well as local gospel artists and cultural groups.

Phokwane Music Festival is an all-day music event open to all ages, featuring live bands, as well as favourite DJs.

In its first year of existence, the festival is staking a claim as one of the top leading outdoor music events in the Northern Cape.

Masekela will entertain the audience with his dance grooves while singing favourite songs such as Thanayi;Chileshe; Umama uyajabula and many others.

The venue is accessible to people of Kimberley; Jan Kempdorp; Hartswater; Warrenton; Pampierstad; Christiana as well as surrounding North West areas of Klerksdorp; Potchefstroom; Delareyville; Mafikeng; Vryburg, Pudumo and Taung.

"We are not taking chances. We have put in place tight security. Officers from the SAPS, traffic department, emergency services as well as security companies will be deployed," said organiser Pitso Molemane.
