A 39-year-old Soweto woman was arrested yesterday after police confiscated a 3.8 revolver with its serial number filed off from her three sons aged 15, 16 and 17.

The teenagers were arrested outside a food chain store in Eldorado Park, Soweto.

Soweto police spokesman Captain Philemon Khorombi said police were passing by when they saw a suspicious-looking black BMW parked outside the store and went to investigate.

"The officers approached the car and searched it and found the gun."

Khorombi said further investigations led to the arrest of the mother, who stays in Protea Glen. "The gun will be taken to the laboratory for ballistic tests," Khorombi said.

The four are expected to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile, a tracker signal led police to the Sunvalley area, where they recovered a stolen vehicle. The two occupants fled when they saw the police and one of them, a 26-year-old, was arrested at a nearby house. The other man is still at large.
