Three men held up staff and customers and stole an undisclosed amount of money from a take-away shop in Tokai, Western Cape police said yesterday.

Captain Randall Stoffels said one of the men entered the shop posing as a customer, followed by two accomplices, at 7:55pm on Tuesday.

While one of the robbers held the staff and customers at gunpoint, another grabbed cash from the till and placed it in a bag.

The robbers took the shop owner's cellphone, and pistol-whipped him before fleeing in a getaway car parked nearby.

Police spotted the vehicle in Wynberg and arrested four of its six occupants. They were aged 18, 19, 21 and 22. The other two occupants ran away.

Stoffels said the police also confiscated a 9mm pistol with the serial numbers filed off, four cellphones and cash in a bag.

He said the four men faced charges of armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault. - Sapa
