The new Toyota Land Cruiser has arrived in South Africa, only weeks after its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The new Land Cruiser 200 bears fresh looks that consist of more style, more space, comfort, and packed with electronic aids for the optimum 4x4 SUV driving experience.
The Japanese maker says this is a vehicle that will be comfortable towing a horsebox.
While the new model is instantly recognisable as Toyota's flagship SUV with strong styling cues carried over from its predecessor, it has a fresh new appearance based on Toyota's brand design philosophy of "Vibrant Clarity", says the manufacturer.
Working within this overall design philosophy, the Land Cruiser 200 design team defined three themes to channel their energy into creating this all new top-of-the-range SUV.
Working within these design parameters, the target was a vehicle that would not be that much bigger in size but would offer improved interior space efficiencies and higher levels of comfort and convenience.
Just 60mm longer and 30mm wider than the previous model, the new Land Cruiser 200 offers an extra 130mm of interior length.
Its exterior cues include strong character lines, especially at the front and in the area around the rear door and door handles.
A body colour rear spoiler adds a styling accent to the roof line and assists in cleaning up the airflow over the vehicle. Transparent-lens, multi-reflector, dual pocket headlamps and LED tail lamps accent the four corners.
The new Land Cruiser 200 comes with the latest technology twin-turbo V8 diesel engine that offers superb power.
Maximum power is 173kW at 3200rpm, with torque standing at 615Nm peaking between 1800 and 2200rpm.
The petrol engine derivative is powered by a 4,7 litre 2UZ-FE V8 engine that was introduced in the Land Cruiser 100 Series. In its latest form, with VVT-i, this quad cam 32-valve engine produces 202kW at 5400rpm with maximum torque of 410Nm at 3400rpm.
In addition to the wheel speed sensors that provide the major input for a traditional ABS system, the engine ECU is included in the logic loop of the new system. This is to enhance the accuracy of feedback about the vehicle's state including rate of acceleration, engine output, and wheel speed.
The ABS system uses these inputs to determine the best slip rate to apply to achieve the optimum rate of deceleration.
The new Land Cruiser petrol is priced at R738000 and diesel costs R770000.
