Capricorn FM hits the airwaves
Limpopo yesterday woke up to the fresh sounds of Capricorn FM, the newly-established commercial radio station.
The station went on air for the first time yesterday and has already caught the attention of many listeners. It is the brainchild of radio mogul and former Metro FM talkshow host Given Mkhari.
The station, which will broadcast in the province in Sepedi, Xitsonga, TshiVenda and English, promises to take radio to another level judging by its performance on its first day of broadcast.
During a visit to the state-of-the-art studios in Bendor, a leafy suburb in Polokwane, it was clear that staffers were eager to have their time behind the mike.
Premier Sello Moloto officially opened the station at a ceremony at 6am.
"Capricorn FM is a young station with ambitions to take the world of radio broadcasting to another level.
"We hope that with the kind of presenters we have acquired, our dreams of making the station compete with the best would become a reality," Mkhari said yesterday.
Mkhari said the station would be heard all over the province in the next few weeks. "For now, our frequency module is still limited to a few areas of the province.
"Sentech has assured us that before the end of December everything would be on track."
Shabba Muleya, co-director and a breakfast show host at the station, invited listeners to tune in to the station if they wanted to listen to fresh sounds.
