Scooping the Sowetan-Old Mutual Bridal Couple of the Year title has been a life-changing experience for Mikateko and Vusumuzi Sibeko.

They were crowned on Saturday at a gala event at Maropeng on the West Rand.

The couple now own a luxury vehicle and are planning to build their dream home with some of their winnings. They also won electrical appliances, jewellery vouchers from Galaxy Jewellers, Aranda blankets and unit trusts worth R10000 from Old Mutual.

"Winning the competition will allow us to cut out some expenses and help in building a home," Vusumuzi said.

Mikateko, 26, and Vusumuzi, 27, of Auckland Park, Johannesburg, met at church in Soweto eight years ago and have been married for a year.

"The first year has been challenging. We are still getting used to the idea of being with each other every day," Mikateko said.
