Bay United have closed the gap between them and leaders Maritzburg United to one point on top of the National First Division's Coastal Stream log after the Team of Choice drew at the weekend.

United walloped Durban Stars 2-0 in Wolfson, while Maritzburg United drew 0-0 against Nathi Lions in a KwaZulu-Natal derby in Clermont.

Linos Chalwe and Johannes Segalo scored for the Port Elizabeth-based side. Senzo Mazingisa, Bay United's general manager, said yesterday they were encouraged by the results they have been getting this season.

"We have been campaigning in this league for three years and we always keep on fighting for promotion. I'm pleading with the people of Eastern Cape to rally behind the team because we want to represent the province in the elite league," Mazingisa said yesterday.

The title race in the Inland Stream is equally gripping after challengers Dynamos collected three points at the weekend. The Dynamites beat GaRankuwa United 2-0 in Pretoria.

Leaders FC AK pipped Witbank Spurs 1-0 in Eldorado Park.
