Shona Khona was conceived by former Reckitt Benckiser general manager Roberto Funari in December 2005 as a soccer camp for aspirant soccer stars aged between 10and 16.

Youngsters are eligible to enter the competition by buying any Reckitt Benckiser household product such as Disprin, Dettol, Mr Min and Cobra polish from Metro Cash and Carry retail outlets, including Lucky "7", Square Deal, Viva, and Buyrite stores across South Africa.

They must then SMS the lucky numbers on the products to the number on the item. If they are lucky they can win one of two weekend soccer and life skills training camps held every April and December.

From the SMSs received, 800 pupils are due to be chosen to attend camps at 20 soccer coaching and life skills development sessions throughout the country on December 8 and 9.

From these camps, about 20 players will qualify for a national camp in Gauteng and from that camp about half will qualify for further induction at the famous Sao Paulo Football Club's youth soccer development academy in Sao Paulo in Brazil in mid-2008. - Victor Mecoamere
