Vaal Rand police, who were on a routine anti-crime patrol, were surprised when they discovered mandrax worth R4,3million in a house in Meyerton on Friday.

A 40-year-old man who was caught off- guard and alone in the house was arrested.

He is expected to appear in the Vereeniging magistrate's court today.

Police spokesman Captain Veli Mcera said the man was arrested in the early hours of Friday during a raid led by Meyerton station commissioner Superintendent Mncedisi Mbala.

"When the police entered the man's house they found the drugs stored in potato sacks and equipment and chemicals used to manufacture the drugs," said Mcera.
