A Limpopo truck driver received a rude awakening from hijackers while sleeping in his vehicle in Amersfoort in Mpumalanga this week.

Petrus Mohlala, 34, had stopped his Nissan truck in Sybrandt Street, Amersfoort, on Tuesday night to take a nap after a long trip, according to Mpumalanga police.

Superintendent Abbie Khoabane said Mohlala was awaken by a knock on the door. Two men ordered him to open the door at gunpoint.

"Inside the truck, they bound his hands with a piece of electric cable and drove the truck in the direction of Perdekop. A few kilometres later, the truck stopped and the gunmen alighted with Mohlala. Shortly thereafter, a minibus came and collected the gunmen leaving Mohlala unhurt," said Khoabane.
