The reality is that in any school where children of different backgrounds come together, there is bound to be friction, especially if they are left to their own devices. For instance, if a pupil misbehaves at school then a teacher is forced to play the role of social worker and parent. But if the problem continues and the pupil becomes unmanageable, the teacher's life might be in danger. This is how many teachers live on a daily basis and the government is not doing enough to protect them.
If Nokulunga Ndala was not stabbed to death, she would have lived to be a mother, a teacher of note and a productive member of her community. Now, this will never happen.
I take my hat off to teachers for the sterling and fearless work that they perform every day. I hope that God gives them the strength and courage to continue disseminating knowledge to pupils seeking education and to protect them from the dangerous ones.
