SA was dubbed the crime capital, now Aids capital?

Reports that South Africa has become the country with the highest number of HIV-Aids patients are disturbing.

Reports that South Africa has become the country with the highest number of HIV-Aids patients are disturbing.

As much as we are not sure of the accuracy of those statistics and the motivation of the people who undertook the research itself, still we have all the reasons to be very afraid.

Crime capital, and now Aids capital? Hold on tight. It is it not time to question but to try and correct things. It is about time that the denialists, dissidents and doubters put aside their beliefs and as a country, make a huge effort to clean our country's image.

As much I would also like to believe that there is a third force trying to tarnish the image of our country, still we need to take some of these things seriously. Remember the damning sentiments from the Union of European Football Associations questioning our readiness to host the 2010 World Cup. This turned out to be the work of a third force.

Instead of denying that we have problems as a country, let us rather be humble about it and not be argumentative because people might think we have something to hide.

For now the best thing to do is stop finding reasons as to why criminals commit crime but rather to try and stop them in their tracks.

We also need to stop arguing about what causes Aids and think of how to prevent it. Otherwise we are running the risk of having a whole generation of South Africans wiped out.
