nightlife pumps

It is Friday evening and Soweto's famous Vilakazi Street is pumping.

The historical home of Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu is the world's only street that boasts two Nobel Peace laureates. Outside Nambitha's, black diamonds jostle for space to park their 4x4s and luxury cars.

A muffled din emerges from inside where patrons sit around and chat while sipping whisky, cognac and exotic cocktails.

"This is the kind of vibe you get here in Soweto and nowhere else," enthuses Mpho Dikgale, who declares himself a junkie for Soweto's nightlife.

"Tonight, my three friends from Pretoria are visiting me and we are going to paint Soweto red. I am going to take them to all the hot places."

Places such as Nambitha's, Sakhumzi and Masakeng have become the hottest spots in Jozi.
