The scrapping of the taxi recapitalisation process in KwaZulu-Natal has been celebrated as a victory for 15000 affected taxi operators.

This followed a ruling by the Durban High Court that the government's taxi recapitalisation process be started afresh.

The court ruled on November 5 that Transport Minister Jeff Radebe must determine a new date for the conversion of permits into operating licences.

The alliance claimed that the date was inappropriate, misguided and misinformed.

High Court judge Noel Hurt and two assessors ruled that the minister must consider the capacity of his administration to carry out the work involved.

Judge Hurt then ordered Radebe to pay the legal costs.
