Penalty feast in Moqhaka Cup

Orlando Pirates claimed the inaugural Moqhaka Charity Cup when they overpowered SuperSport United 5-4 on penalties at Griffons Stadium in Welkom yesterday.

The game ended in a stalemate and was decided on penal ties.

Pirates scorers were Lehlohonolo Seema, Lucky Lekgwathi, Joseph Makhanya, Thapelo Lesha bane and Excellent Walaza.

United scorers were Shane Poggenpoel, Thabo September, Sibusiso Mahlangu and Katlego Mphela.

Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United stumbled into the final of the Moqhaka Charity Cup after booting Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic out via penalties at the same stadium earlier yesterday.

The Buccaneers won 5-4 over Ea Lla Koto in the first semifinal and Matsatsantsa a Pitori beat Phunya Selesele by the same score margin.

The Stars and Pirates game ended in a goalless draw and the Celtic/United game ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time.

Lehlohonolo Seema, Lebohang Mokoena, Lucky Lekgwathi, Thapelo Leshabane and Excellent Walaza scored Bucs' penalties.

Stars' Mbuyiselo Sambo missed the final penalty as his tame shot was saved by young Bucs goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

Ea Lla Koto scorers were Diyo Sibisi, Matome Madimabe, Kapamba Chintu and Prince Olumo.

The second semifinal saw Celtic taking the lead in the 41st minute through Kamohelo Maboya.

United levelled in the 68th minute via Katlego Mashego's back heel.

Mashego, Thabo September, Woodinton Coburn and Mphela netted SuperSport's penalties.

Scorers for Celtic were Ntokozo Sikhakhane, Thabo Nthete and Molefi Malokase. Mark Amofah and Kleinbooi Taaibos failed to convert.
