The driver of a car that hit and injured a Mzimhlophe hostel, Soweto, woman in a hit-and-run incident early last month has still not been arrested, despite police having the car's registration numbers.

Police spokesman Captain Nomvula Mbhense said yesterday that they had circulated particulars of the car which hit and left Smangele Khuzwayo, 25, semi-comatose.

Mbhense said they were investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving.

Zodwa Khuzwayo, 36, sister of Smangele, said they were very disappointed because the driver of the car had not been arrested after six weeks.

The driver hit Smangele after failing to heed a red robot at the Noordgesig-Orlando East intersection on October 2.

The family found her at Chris-Hani Baragwanath Hospital after a frantic three-day search.

Zodwa Khuzwayo said Smangele was discharged from the hospital on November 1.

But her family saw that she was still critical and took her back to Baragwanath Hospital on Monday where she was immediately re-admitted.

Zodwa Khuzwayo said Smangele was so weak that she could not even walk using crutches.
