A police constable attached to the Nelspruit police station in Mpumalanga briefly appeared in court on Wednesday on attempted murder charges.

Constable Sibusiso Sithole, 28, was not asked to plead when he appeared in the KaBokweni magistrate's court in White River. He was arrested on Saturday.

He was granted R1000 bail pending his next appearance later this month. His firearm was confiscated.

It is alleged Sithole, while travelling with his brother on Saturday night, shot and injured two people after accusing them of blocking the road.

The incident allegedly happened at Nyongana Trust near Hazyview.

"Sithole and his brother apparently saw a group of men on the street and accused them of blocking the road, and an argument ensued," said Captain John Mbambo.

Sithole allegedly produced his firearm and fired two shots, injuring two men.

Syko Ngoma, 30, was hit in the thigh while Oupa Ginger Maphanga was shot in the eye, and they both had to receive medical treatment in hospital.
