A Nelspruit police constable briefly appeared in court on Wednesday on attempted murder charges.

Constable Sibusiso Sithole, 28, was not asked to plead when he appeared in the KaBokweni magistrate's court in White River, Mpumalanga. He was arrested on Saturday.

He was granted R1000 bail pending his next appearance later this month. His firearm was confiscated.

"Sithole and his brother apparently saw a group of men on the street and accused them of blocking the road, and an argument ensued," said Captain John Mbambo.

Sithole allegedly fired two shots, injuring two men. One was hit in the thigh and the other in the eye.
