It would be unfair for him not to contest now, and two years down the line the court finds him not guilty. Zuma has been investigated through the media and fired as deputy president of the country, but to date, he has not been charged.
Given that Zuma has been out of office for more than two years and the way he has been treated, he is not in a position to match the public perception of the current ANC president.
Some business leaders have taken advantage by attacking him because they want to keep the status quo of their business interests. They fear the unknown, even though in a court of law Zuma has done nothing wrong since 2001. He also endorses the current economic policies of the government. We will not know how effective his administration will be until he is elected, but to condemn him beforehand is not helpful.
