"I've done my country proud," an overwhelmed Richard Bezuidenhout said after he was crowned the king of Big Brother Africa II.

The 24-year-old film student from Tanzania said this as he thanked the fans who had voted for him and supported him throughout the show.

He caused so much excitement during the show and it paid off for him. He won the US$100000 prize. Richard got seven of the 13 voting blocks, beating his girlfriend Tatiana from Angola and Ofunneka, labelled the mother of the house, from Nigeria. The three survived 98 days in the Big Brother house.

It was a very tense moment after the 10th housemate, Tatiana, was evicted from the house. She admitted she had no idea how her relationship with Richard would develop outside the house.

"We decided that the decision was to come from our partners," she said.

Tatiana and Ofunneka both won tickets to the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, courtesy of MTN.

Soon after the announcement was made, Richard walked through the Big Brother house doors and said to his fans: "I love you all. Whatever I do I want to change people's lives positively."

Richard received votes from Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia and the rest of Africa voted for Ofunneka, while Tatiana received only Angola's vote.

Big BrotherAfrica has set a new milestone for reality TV in Africa, with more than 900000 SMS messages received. There were 4 million video clips viewed online.
