A 30-year-old Roodepoort man, said to be the most brutal domestic abuser ever, appeared in the Johannesburg high court yesterday.
The father of three, who is out on R60000 bail, is facing 34 criminal charges he allegedly committed against his family.
Among the charges are 18 for raping his wife, five of indecent assault, two of assaulting his children aged between nine and three, and one of attempted murder. His youngest son died a few days after the man allegedly beat him up.
According to an indictment by the prosecution, the abuse occurred between 2000 and last year. On several occasions, the accused, his brother-in-law and his stepfather would rape his wife. The accused would hold his wife down while the other men raped her. The prosecution claims that the woman almost lost her life when the accused discovered she was pregnant and forced her to have an illegal abortion.
The indictment mentions events where the accused tied his wife up before inserting objects into her vagina. When the woman screamed, he shoved a hot boiled egg into her mouth.
The woman stayed with the accused because he allegedly threatened to kill her and their children if she left him. She left him in November last year with the help of her friends.
The man is due to appear in court again on April 21 next year.
