Six Chinese illegal immigrants accused of possession and dealing in drugs worth about R1million were jailed in the Vereeniging regional court on Friday.

Though having given some of them jail sentences, magistrate Chris Kruger said they would not be released but handed over to immigration officials for deportation to China.

The five men and a woman had pleaded guilty of contravening the Immigration Act, staying in the country illegally, being in possession of fraudulent passports and possessing drugs. They are Jieqian Feng, Cailin Lin, Jian Lian Feng, Fan Yan Sam, Meng Jian Zhu, and Zhuchi Feng.

Sam and Zhuchi were each sentenced to seven years and 60 days. The other three were each sentenced to 60 days imprisonment. Lin was sentenced to a fine of R2000 or 90 days in jail.
