Mpumalanga's head of the department of safety and security, Ndabenhle Mkhize, has been fired.

MEC Fish Mahlalela said yesterday Mkhize was fired on October 31 following a disciplinary inquiry over allegations of misconduct against Mkhize.

"Charges against him were followed after a forensic investigation which included, but was not limited to, contravention of treasury regulations in terms of the Public Finance Management Act.

"An independent and well-constituted disciplinary hearing found him guilty on six charges of misconduct," Mahlalela said.

Mahlalela said the charges against Mkhize related to actions that took place during the period between November last year and January this year, when Mkhize, as the accounting officer, contravened treasury regulations before, during and after the processing of a security tender.

It is alleged that Mkhize appointed a security company without advertising the tender. It is not clear if Mkhize was involved in the security company in question.
