A matric pupil was raped at a school in Umlazi on Sunday.

The KwaZulu-Natal girl was waiting for a taxi to take her home after she had finished studying physics with a group of friends.

While the 17-year-old girl was waiting for a taxi, an unknown man approached her and offered to take her home in his car.

When the girl refused to get into the man's car, he allegedly dragged her into the vehicle and drove off with her.

The suspect then drove to a school where police believe he is residing.

Police said they are investigating whether the suspect is employed at the school as a teacher, a caretaker or a security guard.

At the school, the suspect allegedly forced the young girl to take off her clothes and then he raped her.

Police spokesman Captain Khephu Ndlovu said police will not name the school where the incident occurred because it would jeopardise their investigations.

Police also refused to give details of the car while investigations are taking place.

Ndlovu said the police would only be able to establish the suspect's relationship to the school once they have made an arrest, which is expected today.

"We are aware of the man's whereabouts and we expect to bust him any time now," Ndlovu said.

The traumatised matriculant had to write her physics paper on Monday, a day after her terrible experience.
