The police crime intelligence gathering unit in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, has uncovered a teenage drug ring dealing in dangerous substances.
Police spokesman Captain Charmaine Struwig said it was the first time they had found such dangerous drugs in the area.
A teenager brought a Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) stamp to the attention of the police on Monday. The LSD stamp drug is a powerful hallucinogenic which can be absorbed through the skin.
Three further stamps and two Ecstasy tablets were found in the area. The drugs will be sent to a laboratory for analysis.
"The stamps are about 8mm x 8mm in size," Struwig said.
"We are working day and night to determine the extent of drug use in the area."
She urged people who come across the drug stamps not to touch them with bare hands.
Instead, they should alert police as soon as possible so that the drug stamps could be removed and analysed.
"We appeal to parents to be more vigilant of these drugs in their homes and they must advise children not to take it.
"No one has been arrested on this matter," she said.
A concerned resident said they had never heard of such drugs in the area.
l Meanwhile, police in Newcastle have arrested a 51-year-old man after he allegedly robbed a garage cashier at gunpoint.
Police spokesman Captain Shooz Magudulela said the suspect pretended to be buying something, and when he was about to pay he allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded cash.
