Young people between the ages of 13 and 25 are invited to take part in the 2007 Johannesburg Literary Festival.
The youth development project, also called JoLife, is an initiative of the City of Johannesburg, wRite Associates, Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation. It gives young people an opportunity to showcase their literary capabilities and to enhance their literary knowledge. The festival's related projects include workshops and a writing competition
The theme of the festival is Pride in Yourself and it is inspired by the life and philosophy of black consciousness icon, Steve Bantu Biko.
JoLife hopes to reflect the positive belief that youth should have in themselves and also the principles for which they should stand. The festival encourages positive and inspiring consciousness in the youth of Johannesburg.
So, all you young people in the age group 13 to 25, submit short stories of not more than 4000 words on about four pages. Your poems should not exceed 700 words and must be restricted to two pages.
Remember that all short stories and poetry should be typed neatly. Submissions can be in English, Afrikaans, Sesotho, isiZulu, isiXhosa, isiNdebele, Setswana, Sepedi, Siswati, Xitsonga and Tshivenda.
The great prizes to be won include portable personal computers (laptops), book gift vouchers and certificates.
