Ever been to OR Tambo International Airport and noticed that not one restaurant serves African cuisine?

That is about to change because Wandi Ndaba, owner of Wandies Place in Dube, Soweto, has won a tender to set up shop at the gateway to Africa.

Wandies Place will start operating this month with a staff of more than 85 people.

Ndaba started out operating an illegal shebeen from his house in 1981. With the advent of democracy he turned his establishment into a tourist attraction that hundreds of foreign tourists and prominent personalities visit each month.

He expects the airport outlet to make a turnover of about R3million a year. Ndaba said he would not have realised this venture without the Tourism Enterprise Programme.
