Four top Premiership teams take part in the inaugural Moqhaka Charity Cup billed for Kroonstad on Saturday, November 17.

The winner will be R1 million richer while the runners-up will pocket R500 000 and the losers will go home with R250 000 each for taking part.

The tournament was launched yesterday at a function in Sandton, Jophannesburg

It coincides with the Nelson Mandela Challenge between Bafana Bafana and the United States at Ellis Park Stadium at 8pm on the same day.

The Charity Cup will feature the resurgent Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, minnows Free State Stars and Bloemfontein Celtic.

The spectacular soccer tournament is the brainchild of the Moqhaka Local Municipality.

It will be part of the 10-day Moqhaka Tourism Extravanganza which will consist of other sports activities and music concerts.

Mantebu Mokgosi, executive mayor, said they were honoured and privileged to host matches involving Premier Soccer League teams.

"We trust that the tournament will be an action-packed affair played in the true spirit of sportsmanship,'' said Mokgosi.

She added that more than 40 percent of the revenue generated from this event will benefit the Mayor's Educational Trust.

Tournament organiser Sam Tshabalala has urged soccer fans to purchase tickets early because the stadium accommodates only 30000 fans.

Tickets will be available at Computicket outlets, Shoprite and Checkers Hyper outlets at R30 a person.

The draw was made with Stars facing Bucs in the first semifinals at 10am and Phunya Selesele coming up against Matsantsa a Pitori at noon. The final is at 5.30pm.

In his speech Webster Lichaba, United's manager, felt that this is the time for the Gautengers (Pirates and United) to make big money because they are both out of the Telkom Knockout Cup.
