The usually drab Sebokeng magistrate's court precinct sprang to life yesterday when local and international media arrived for the appearance of a former dormitory mother at the prestigious Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls, in the Vaal.
"Are they shooting a movie in court? I want to see," shouted a woman who was surprised by the large contingent of print, radio and television journalists jostling for space.
Inside the packed regional court number five, police ordered everyone, including journalists, to leave the premises and be searched.
Sedibeng district municipality executive mayor Mlungisi Hlongwane was also present.
Virginia Makopo, 27, appeared before magistrate Thelma Simpson, charged with 13 counts of assault, indecent assault and crimen injuria.
Some people in the gallery gladly posed for the cameras that recorded the proceedings, before state advocate Alta Nieuwoudt shouted: "The media is not allowed in here, please leave."
A woman in the gallery whispered: "When is she coming. I want to see her."
Makopo was granted R3000 bail, under strict conditions.
The matter was postponed to December 13.
