However, he also reiterated his dislike for the idea of using video technology for major decisions.
"The international board is against videos, like me. Three officials is obsolete; we need to try other things to cut out mistakes," said Platini.
He wants to test the five officials idea at junior level in the future, he told Canal+ in France.
That won't be at the next world club championships in Japan in December, though, as there is already a test slated for that tournament, with an "intelligent ball" fitted with a microchip that can detect whether or not the ball has crossed the goalline.
That means any test with five officials - two extra assistant referees - won't happen until next year.
Platini has long been an advocate of extra officials, having said before his election to the Uefa presidency that that was one of his solutions for reducing the number of injustices in games.
"They can be experienced officials, more than 45 years old, who we won't ask to run too much but instead just concentrate on the penalty box," Platini said at the time. - Sapa-AFP
